FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT IN HOTSPOT AREA: MBIP'S EFFORTS TO ADDRESS THE RISK OF FLOODING AND CLIMATE CHANGE
The flood mitigation project in the Taman Damai Jaya hotspot area is being actively implemented by the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), which is one of the important efforts to deal with the flood issue in this area. This project involves the construction of an erosion wall on the banks of Sungai Melana, “flood wall,” and the On-site Detention (OSD) system in Jalan Makmur, Taman Damai Jaya, Skudai. Started since 2023, this project is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2024.
This project has been planned since 2021 with the aim of reducing the impact of floods that often occur in housing near Sungai Melana, which has a major impact on socio-economic activities, as well as causing difficulties and losses to local residents. The implementation of this project is part of MBIP's strategy in facing the challenge of increasing climate change and the effects of the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), thus ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in MBIP's administrative area.
This project is expected to provide long-term benefits to the local community by increasing resilience to natural disasters as well as preserving the sustainability of the surrounding area.
Mbip is also continuously and committed to improving the development of flood mitigation projects and infrastructure resilience by upgrading and rejuvenating existing infrastructure throughout the city in the face of increasingly challenging climate change.
