FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT IN HOTSPOT AREA: MBIP'S EFFORTS TO ADDRESS THE FRAGILITY OF OUTDATED INFRASTRUCTURE, THE IMPACT OF FLOODS AND CLIMATE CHANGE
The Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) is implementing a flood mitigation project in the Taman Damai Jaya hotspot area, particularly in Jalan Tenang, involving the upgrading of the main ditch, the construction of a cliff erosion wall and “flood wall.” This project aims to overcome the fragility of the old drainage infrastructure as well as the impact of floods that often occur due to the collision of surface runoff and tides from nearby areas such as Taman Ungku Tun Aminah and Taman Sutera Utama.
This project has been planned since 2022 with the aim of reducing the impact of floods and infrastructure fragility that often occurs in old housing estates with good cooperation from Councilors, developers, district DPS and state DPS as well as representatives of local residents.
The implementation of this project is part of MBIP's strategy in facing the challenge of increasing climate change and the effects of the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), thus ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in MBIP's administrative area.
The cooperation of the residents involved is greatly appreciated to ensure that the flood mitigation project runs smoothly and is completed according to the schedule that has been set.
