Background
Commissioner Of Buildings Unit (COB) Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP) was created in 2008 to enforce the Strata Management Act. Accordingly, the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) was enforced from 1 June 2015 and the Strata Management Regulations (Incentive & Management) were gazetted on 2 June 2015.
This COB unit acts as the implementer and regulator of legislation regarding the management and maintenance of stratified buildings and common property under the administration of the Iskandar Puteri City Council. In addition, this unit also plays a role from the aspect of sustainability that involves well-being and harmony between developers, buyers and owners in stratified development areas.
The MBIP Mayor is the Building Commissioner while the MBIP Secretary is the Deputy Building Commissioner. In carrying out any general or special instructions, powers and obligations that need to be carried out by the MBIP Building Commissioner, until 2023 a total of 12 staff members are stationed in the COB Unit. The COB Unit is headed by the W44 Evaluation Officer as the Director of the Building Commissioner Unit (COB) of MBIP.
