Development Planning Department
Background
Development Planning Department plays a role in implementing development planning, control and supervision activities within the administrative area of the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP).
Responsibilities in planning, organizing and controlling development are subject to the planning law which is the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172), guidelines and planning policies enacted under it.
The department was created in 1993 and was formerly known as City and Landscape Planning Department led by a City Planning Officer and focused more on the field of development and landscape planning in the area of the Johor Bahru Tengah District Council (MDJBT) at that time.
However, in 2001 after MDJBT was upgraded to a municipality, namely MPJBT, the City and Landscape Planning Department was split into two separate departments, namely City Planning Department and Landscape Department. This aims to provide full responsibility in development planning, while landscape planning is only involved on the side, especially in reviewing and giving supporting comments to the approval of landscape plans.
In 2012, the responsibility for development planning in the Iskandar Malaysia area has grown rapidly and this has caused the City Planning Department to be upgraded to the Development Planning Department.
